Bhurungamari, Kurigram: In a major operation, Bhurungamari police have seized Indian smuggled jewelry and Basmati rice worth lakhs of taka. The raid was conducted on Saturday by an investigative team from Bhurungamari Police under the leadership of Circle ASP Muntasir Mamun Mun. The operation targeted a rented house behind the Women’s Degree College in Sadar Union, Bhurungamari. During the raid, police recovered over 35 types of Indian jewelry and 300 kilograms of Basmati rice. Police sources revealed that a smuggling ring had been using the house for storing and distributing Indian jewelry and Basmati rice. The gang was reportedly operating in areas including Bhurungamari, Votahat, Kochakata, Madarganj, and Narayanpur near the Kurigram border to smuggle goods into the country. Based on long-term surveillance and confidential information, the police successfully conducted the operation. Important information about the smuggling gang was also collected from the house owner. A case is being prepared under the Special Powers Act-1974. Circle ASP Muntasir Mamun Mun stated, “Ahead of the upcoming Eid, regular crackdowns will continue against smuggling and drug syndicates in the Bhurungamari circle to maintain law and order. Our operations will remain ongoing to ensure public safety.”
